Dr. Fred Mael has been an
organizational consultant
for over 20 years. He consults, conducts research, and manages projects in areas such as talent
retention, organizational culture, organizational surveys, best practices
studies, and development of performance management systems.
He also provides executive coaching
and life coaching to a wide range of managers, business owners and individuals.
He helps them achieve success in setting and fullfilling goals and priorities, manage
their own and subordinates’ performance, and maintain work life balance.
Prior
to leading his own organizational consulting practice, Dr. Mael was a
consultant with AIR,
a Washington, DC, research and consulting firm. Previous to
that, he worked for the Army Research Institute and Unisys Corporation. He has a
Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Psychology from Wayne State University and a
Masters in Counseling Psychology from Loyola College of Maryland. He is also
a Certified Mentor Coach through MentorCoach, an ICF-accredited coach training program. |

Dr. Mael is the author of over seventy
book chapters, journal articles, and conference presentations on
topics such as talent retention, career progression, leadership,
workforce diversity, and work unit cohesion. He was elected a Fellow of the
American Psychological Association and the Society for Industrial Organizational
Psychology in 2004 for what was termed his "programmatic and influential work”
in the field. He has served on the editorial boards of Career Development
Quarterly
and
Personnel Psychology.
His work has been described in popular publications such as the
Washington Post,
Wall Street Journal Online, Education Week,
Athletic Monthly Magazine, the San Jose Mercury News, and the
St. Petersburg Times.
He also writes regularly for
Baltimore SmartCEO,
a regional magazine for managers of growing companies.
